Nnamdi Nwagwu, an Afro-Italian choreographer and dancer based in Rotterdam. Nnamdi trained at Professione Danza Parma and Codarts University of Arts in the Netherlands, further refining his studies at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and the Netherlands Dans Theater (NDT).

 

A recipient of prestigious international awards, he has performed in renowned galas worldwide, including in Mexico, Cuba, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, the United States, and France. He regularly collaborates as a Guest Choreographer with Teatro Regio di Parma, Korzo Theater, and Teatro Sociale di Como, among others. Since 2021, he has been a regular choreographer With the Balletto di Parma.

 

Nnamdi is a past winner of the audience prize at the Internationales Solo-Tanz-Theater Festival and this year was a finalist in the competition.

 

In 2023, Nnamdi became the first Afro-Italian choreographer to create for the Stuttgart Ballet. He has also collaborated with The National Ballet of Canada, the Royal Ballet School, and the students of the Paris Opera Ballet during AI23, where he presented Lolara in Toronto. That same year, his creation Tito debuted at Lincoln Center in New York, earning high praise from U.S. critics.

 

In 2025, Nnamdi is premiering three new works: one for the Stuttgart Ballet, another for the Junior Company of the Dutch National Ballet, in collaboration with ISH Dance Collective, and lastly his first self production Le Prefiche winner of the call for creation of Orsolina28 Art Foundation.

 

This year, Nnamdi has been shortlisted for the Forbes Africa 30 Under 30 award as one of the most influential artists in his field. Alongside his choreographic career, he collaborates with international brands such as Vogue, Tod’s, Zalando, Tinder, and Calvin Klein as a movement director. He continues to work as a choreographer and International guest artist, based in the Netherlands.
